Purchasing Coordinator Job Description -
Job Summary -
The Purchasing Coordinator will report to the Director of Marketing and support Lazy River Products by overseeing day-to-day buying, inventory management, and retail program coordination. This role ensures that 3rd party products (cannabis and non-cannabis), packaging, and promotional items are in stock, priced competitively, and aligned with sales goals. This includes analyzing past buying trends, sales records, price, and quality of product to determine value and yield while maintaining and managing a comprehensive menu offering.
Success in this role means:
· 3rd party products and packaging are always in stock and competitively priced.
· Inventory decisions are data-driven and clearly reported.
· Retail staff feel supported with accurate product info and training resources.
· Vendor demos are scheduled consistently to enhance the customer experience.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
Education -
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or related field preferred.
· Proficiency with Windows productivity tools (i.e. Excel) and computer navigation.
Experience -
· 2+ years of experience in procurement, inventory management, and retail product coordination (cannabis or regulated industry a plus).
· Minimum of 1-year proven cannabis purchasing required.
· Knowledge and understanding of state and local cannabis laws and how they apply to the operations of Lazy River Products is required.
· Ability to analyze sales and inventory data; familiarity with BDSA, Dutchie, AIQ, BI tools preferred.
Core Tasks and Responsibilities -
Procurement & Product Coordination
· Research, source, and purchase 3rd party products (cannabis, accessories, apparel, giveaways) under guidance from the Director of Marketing.
· Order packaging and monitor inventory levels to ensure on-time replenishment.
· Compare pricing between vendors and provide recommendations for cost optimization.
· Partner with the wholesale team to coordinate reciprocal buys.
Inventory & Reporting
· Track stock levels across retail locations and reorder based on sales trends.
· Run regular reports in BDSA, Dutchie, AIQ, and BI to monitor product performance.
· Provide weekly updates on inventory status and product sell-through.
· Performs analysis of market trends and competitor offerings to inform product selection, pricing, and sales performance to maximize profitability through margin and revenue analysis.
· Performs analysis of customer suggestions and purchasing patterns through feedback from Customers and Retail departments.
Retail Support & Training
· Assist in creating simple product talking points and resources for retail staff.
· Coordinate schedules for vendor pop-up demos and communicate details to retail teams.
· Support staff knowledge by relaying vendor materials and promotion details.
· Establishes, maintains, and expands relationships with wholesale suppliers to supplement menus and ensure competitive offerings for consumers; troubleshoots issues with partners on quality, packaging and barcodes, and sales performance.
· Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge –
· Knowledge and understanding of state and local cannabis laws and how they apply to the operations of Lazy River Products.
· Sales and Marketing — Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
· Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
· English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
· Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
· Economics and Accounting — Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.

Physical Requirement/Work Environment –
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
· Must be able to regularly travel to trade shows and retail locations.
Additional Requirements –
· Must be 21 years of age or older and comply with all legal or company regulation requirements for working in the industry.
· Ability to work weekends and holidays.
· Reliable transportation.
